Alzheimers & Massage

Recent American research reported in the Western Journal of Nursing Research evaluated the effect of therapeutic touch on Alzheimer’ patients suggesting that gentle massage can help sufferers deal with the agitated behaviour they experience.

While therapeutic massage does not reverse the degenerative nature of dementia it can improve their quality of life helping them relax, enjoy better sleep patterns and enhance circulation, thus improving their quality of life.

At the Centre we are able to provide appropriate massage specifically adjusted for Alzheimer’s patients. They remain largely clothed and sit semi-reclined. In their confused world these clients often respond well helping them relax and finish the session in a better mood.
